Thanksgiving is quite a controversial holiday. Most people think we should all be thankful for something... sometimes we have a hard time articulating thankful for exactly WHAT?

Life itself is a no-brainer - because we tend to fear death so much. "Yes, I'm thankful that I woke up today." Am I? Hmmmm, that was a pretty good dream, but now I've got to face the reality of a job I'm not happy with, a relationship that ain't relating, bills that are never PERMANENTLY paid (they come back every month, don't they?) and all the other various pleasures and not so pleasures that go with breathing.

Yep, yesterday was Thanksgiving and I made it through another one without violence, injury or even intoxication. And I was able to spend most of the day with my sister and part of the afternoon with my son. Okay, thanks for that, then - and we'll see if next year feels any better.

Meanwhile, Christmas is coming soon. Everybody is thinking about what will be 'gifted' to them - perhaps to remember for mention on Thanksgiving next year. Christmas makes me think of 2005, when my mother checked into the hospital with stomach pains on Christmas and died there from cancer shortly after the new year. I'll be thinking of 2001, when my son was tragically burned in Brooklyn from a poorly placed and unprotected steam pipes.

I hope you readers had a great holiday. I ate well. I will eat better. And I am thankful for ALL of my children (and grand children) and most of all, for my newest jewel in the crown - my son Joshua...
